Expansive Therapy

We came together to start the practice in 2017. We were passionate about the craft of therapy, but saw issues with the field that we felt we could improve upon. We wanted to make therapy more LGBTQ affirming, more accessible, and more relational. We wanted to create a group practice where LGBTQ therapists felt truly supported and part of a team.
We were inspired by the concept of expansion. We believe that when we are truly seen by a trusted other and provided an affirming and empowering space, that we have an unlimited capacity to heal, to grow, and to expand ourselves. We ask our therapists to always stay curious about what is happening in the moment, in the here and now. This allows the client the space to explore and expand their definitions of self.
We were driven to provide a space for the LGBTQ+ community in particular. We wanted to go beyond checking a box for LGBTQ affirming therapy to creating a practice that was committed to the community, where LGBTQ people could bring their whole selves into therapy. Queer theory asks that we look at the world in a new way, not through a heteronormative lens, but from each individual perspective which is unique and ever shifting. We are passionate about understanding the unique challenges of our community and helping our queer clients to heal.
Above all, we strive to create an experience of warmth at Expansive, from our therapy staff to our admin team. We want you to feel comfortable and supported at our practice, and we always welcome feedback.
