About Bi’s in Biz
Bi’s in Biz works to promote gay, lesbian, bi/pan, transgender, queer, and non-binary business owners by highlighting their work and connecting them with people who are looking for organizations like theirs. Providing tangible support for the queer community is something Bi’s in Biz takes very seriously because it’s no secret that the political tide has turned against our rights and freedoms.
An explosion of anti-transgender laws at the state level, the 2023 Supreme Court decision that allows businesses to refuse some services to LGBTQ+ people, and corporations bowing down to anti-gay hate are just a few examples of what we’ve already lost.
As a LGBTQ+ business owner or ally who runs a visibly queer-friendly business, you can expand your reach online and enjoy the benefits of joining a space that’s built to feature organizations like yours. With this directory, you can promote your brand, your work, and your mission by cutting through the noise and sending a message that resonates with the audience that visits Bi’s in Biz.
About Shari Rose, directory owner
I work as a SEO consultant at Blurred Bylines, so I spend a lot of my time helping business owners and nonprofits grow their organizations through search engine optimization strategies. As a bi business owner, I found myself wanting to find a way to better support not only other bisexual+ (bi, pan, queer, or fluid) entrepreneurs and advocates, but everyone in the LGBTQ+ community with their professional endeavors.
It only made sense to expand upon what I know how to do best, and build a directory for queer business owners, advocates, and freelancers that attracts organic visitors who are actively searching for professionals like them. Bi’s in Biz is a very young directory (established March 2024), but it’s backed by my 7 years of experience in growing long-term traffic and rankings for websites of all industries and sizes.
Why the focus on bisexual+ business owners in the directory’s name?
Bi’s in Biz specifically acknowledges bi+ business owners in its name because bi/pan representation is typically very difficult to find, even in queer spaces. For example, though bi+ people comprise the largest identity in the LGBTQ+ community, we are severely underrepresented in major queer organizations around the U.S.
This lack of visibility directly translates to lack of funding and resources. A 2020 study that tracked domestic grant dollars received by each sexual orientation or gender identity in the LGBTQ+ community found that:
- Transgender organizations received $30,996,642
- Organizations for gay men received $9,386,675
- Lesbian organizations received $3,737,266
- Bisexual organizations received just $58,333
Bi’s in Biz provides direct representation *by name* for bisexual+ people, and that in itself is quite rare. This name helps shine a small light on bisexual business owners and serve as a little representation oasis for any bi+ person who happens to visit. This directory is proud to welcome all LGBTQ+ business owners and LGBTQ-friendly organizations, and is unapologetically bi-owned.
